Celebrating Black History Month with Atwood Magazine: Unwrapped Vol. 9 Featured in a Special Editorial

At Hidden Beach Recordings, we’ve always believed in the power of music to connect generations, bridge cultures, and spark meaningful conversations. That’s why we’re incredibly honored to see Unwrapped Volume 9: The Songs of Kendrick Lamar Reimagined featured in Atwood Magazine’s latest article in celebration of Black History Month.

In a beautifully written editorial, Atwood Magazine explores the legacy of Unwrapped, our groundbreaking jazz-hip-hop fusion series, and how its latest installment pays tribute to one of the most influential voices of our time—Kendrick Lamar. The article, penned by Hidden Beach founder Steve McKeever, not only highlights the creative process behind Unwrapped Volume 9, but also emphasizes the cultural significance of reinterpreting Kendrick’s powerful catalog through the lens of jazz musicianship.

Bridging Generations Through Music

As the article explains, Unwrapped has always been about reimagining hip-hop classics through live instrumentation, giving listeners a fresh perspective on the songs they love. With Volume 9, we focused on Kendrick Lamar’s catalog because his music has become a modern-day soundtrack to social change, personal reflection, and cultural pride. By presenting Kendrick’s work in this new form, we’re not just celebrating his artistry—we’re also making these songs accessible to audiences who might not typically engage with hip-hop, from jazz lovers to younger listeners exploring new sounds.

Black History Month Spotlight

Atwood Magazine’s feature is part of their special Black History Month editorial series, where they shine a light on stories that celebrate Black creativity, culture, and contributions to the arts. For Unwrapped to be highlighted in this context reinforces what we’ve always known: this project is more than music—it’s a cultural conversation. It’s about honoring the artistry of Black musicians past, present, and future.

Continuing the Celebration

We encourage everyone to read the full article here and join us in continuing to uplift Unwrapped Volume 9. As we celebrate Black History Month and beyond, we remain committed to sharing the stories, sounds, and innovations that shape our culture.

Thank you to Atwood Magazine for this incredible spotlight—and to all of you for supporting the UNWRAPPED series. Let’s keep the music going.
