Celebrating BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month + 25 Years of Hidden Beach History

At Hidden Beach Recordings, our mission has always been rooted in love, empowerment, and authenticity—values that shine even brighter during BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, recognized every July. This important month honors the unique mental health struggles faced by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, while also encouraging healing through culturally relevant care, storytelling, and creative expression.

As we reflect on the importance of mental well-being in our communities, we’re reminded that music has long been a powerful source of healing—an outlet for emotion, a bridge between generations, and a space where truth can be spoken without judgment.

That belief in the healing power of music is what inspired us 25 years ago when Hidden Beach was founded. And now, here we are—just one week away from celebrating a major milestone: the 25th anniversary of our very first two releases.

On July 18, 2000, Hidden Beach introduced the world to two groundbreaking albums:

    • Brenda Russell’s stunning album Paris Rain —a project filled with elegance, storytelling, and resilience, embodying the depth of real-life emotion and experience.

Both albums marked the beginning of a legacy—music with substance, intention, and soul. And both remain timeless reminders of how much representation, truth-telling, and emotional vulnerability matter in art—especially for communities that carry the weight of generational trauma and cultural silence.

So today, on July 11th, as we stand at the intersection of honoring BIPOC mental health and commemorating a quarter-century of music that matters, we invite you to:

  • Revisit the music that moved us.
  • Reflect on the importance of mental wellness in our communities.
  • And join us as we count down to July 18th —a celebration of 25 years of sound, story, and soul.

Stay tuned all week for more ways we’ll be honoring this powerful anniversary.
