The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) joined forces with Hidden Beach Recordings to release CHANGE IS NOW: RENEWING AMERICA’S PROMISE—the exclusive official presidential inauguration collection commemorative CD-DVD set. This official inauguration collection celebrates President Barack Obama’s historic election by including eight of his landmark campaign speeches together for the first time ever on one DVD and an impressive CD with inspired music from America’s top recording artists.
Included in the over three hours of speeches from the President-elect are his “Announcement for President” made on February 10, 2007 in Springfield, IL; his profound speech on race relations “A More Perfect Union” delivered March 18, 2008 in Philadelphia, PA; “A World That Stands As One”–his unifying call to the international community given in Berlin, Germany on July 24, 2008 in front of over 200,000 people; his electrifying acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention “The American Promise”; and his “Election Night Victory Speech” made at Grant Park in Chicago, IL on November 4, 2008.
The 18-song CD builds on Hidden Beach’s previous release YES WE CAN: VOICES OF A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT which was inspired by the grassroots movement created by at the time, Senator Barack Obama’s historic presidential run. Both collections reflect America’s diversity by tapping into the creative community’s overwhelming response to the campaign’s–and now new administration’s–universal themes of hope, unity and change. The set includes music from the recording industry’s most respected, talented and accomplished artists hailing from all music forms and backgrounds, including a number of Grammy-winning and platinum-selling artists. Adding to the powerful message of the music, the songs on the album are also intercut with excerpts from President-elect Obama’s most memorable speeches which have inspired millions around the world.
The CD features new original songs from Stevie Wonder–a key voice in our history whose classic songs have galvanized social consciousness–Will.I.Am, Maroon 5, Lenny Kravitz, Bebe Winans and The Tony Rich Project as well as a new David Foster string mix of “Eternity” from Lionel Richie. The album also includes a track written for this occasion by Robin Thicke as well as the stirring rendition of “The National Anthem” sung by Jennifer Hudson at the Democratic National Convention. The CD also features inspired tracks from Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Melissa Etheridge, Usher, India.Arie, Ozomatli, Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie and Common.
PIC spokesperson Brent Colburn said, “The songs featured on this unique collection captured the energy and enthusiasm that all Americans celebrated on January 20th, 2009”. “The eighteen artists on this album truly represent how our differences can come together to celebrate our common purpose. We are grateful for their creativity and their musical contributions.”
Hidden Beach Records President Steve McKeever adds, “It has been well-established that President Barack Obama is a great communicator. The speeches we selected for inclusion in this package underscore and preserve some of the finest examples of this fact in one historic document which anyone who followed the campaign will cherish. Great communication is also the theme and focus of the artist selection for inclusion. With the majority of material on the CD written for this purpose, we have tapped into the enormous well spring of passion regarding this moment in history. We are thankful to Meaghan Burdick and the hard-working folks at the Presidential Inaugural Committee and the many music industry professionals who helped pull this package off in a record amount of time.”
