It’s Friday again so it’s time to discuss more favorites to try over the weekend. Being the television connoisseurs that we are here at Hidden Beach, we decided to put our heads together to come up with a summer TV guide for you. So pick up your remotes, turn off your phones and shut that computer down (after you’ve read this of course) and catch up on your TV game.
Tell us, what are you watching this summer?
Orange Is The New Black
Netflix – Season 2
Let me be the next person to tell you, because I’m sure you’ve already been told this, “Watch Orange Is The New Black.” If you don’t have Netflix yet, get it. You’re missing a great show.
Jenji Kohan, the show’s creator, has done a masterful job of balancing hysterical moments with real social issues, like the life circumstances that are driving forces to the penitentiary for some prisoners. Now, that’s not to say I think the show is realistic, but it is to say, the show is introspective, funny, and just super entertaining overall.
FX — Season 1
Tyrant is refreshingly unusual. Offering a glimpse into the lives of members of a royal Middle Eastern family is rare fare for American TV, outside of news broadcasts. Without organic knowledge about the Middle Eastern lifestyle, it’s hard to judge the show’s authenticity. Tyrant seems to be sticking pretty closely to stereotypes. Bloody scenes that depict terrorist acts are frequent, and misogynistic depictions of sexual violence against women are often. Among all of these shocking moments though, is an intricate storyline with several different growth points built in. Tyrant is one show you’re going to want to follow this summer.
Lifetime — Season 2
Devious Maids, now in its sophomore year, is a fun summer romp. With hot men and sultry women, the show is steaming up our TV screens. The plot twists and turns around affairs, secrets, murders, and lies. If you’re looking for your new guilty pleasure, this is it! Tune in on Sunday nights.
Starz – Season 1
On Power, our leading man Ghost struggles between his thirst for Power as New York City’s top drug lord and his desire to reinvent himself as the owner of downtown’s swankiest club. Throw in sexy club patrons and passionate love scenes and you have the perfect recipe for a summer TV love affair.
Murder In The First
TNT– Season 1
I recently stumbled on the second episode of the new Taye Digg’s drama on TNT Murder In The First. After watching 20 minutes of the show I realized that I had to go back and watch it from the beginning. Taye Diggs is as charming, handsome and suave as ever and the female lead played by Kathleen Robertson is smart, sexy and tough (my kinda gal)! The show’s creator Steven Bochco is responsible for memorable shows like NYPD Blue, LA Law and Hill Street Blues. You should check it out. I’m hooked!
